Frequently asked marquee questions
I've never put up a marquee before. Is it hard?
No. It's actually very easy, and 3 people can do it in about 3-4 hours (2-3 hours with experience). You'll need a stepladder for the linings and a hammer for the pegs. How much space does a marquee take up when collapsed?
The exact dimensions of each box is listed on the marquee product page but a marquee will usually fit into a 4x4 or estate car. A 6m x 12m Marquee was once fitted in to the back of a Fiat Punto but we would recommend something larger! I'm still not sure how to put up a marquee. Do you offer a training day?
Our marquees are so easy to put up there usually isn't the demand but we can arrange training days for large groups if required. We also have several contacts around the country who can offer this. When should we erect the marquee?
Not on the day! Ideally several days before to allow time for decorating the marquee and in case of any problems. If you're laying flooring don't worry about leaving it down for several days – grass is tough stuff and will soon recover. How do I know your marquees are better than the cheaper party tents available?
Look at the specifications. Most party tents use 230g/m2 material for their walls and roofs. You can just about get away with using that for walls but roofs are far more important and need something more durable. We use 380g/m2 for walls and 500g/m2 for roofs.
Try to find out how the tents go together – we use eye-bolts to lock our poles together not metal buttons of the style used in caravan awnings.
We only use flame retardant material for the exterior covers and interior linings.
We believe our DIY Marquees are the most durable marquee of their type available. The fact that our older models are being copied also backs this claim up.
Can I use a marquee to extend my house?
Yes, we would recommend having the 6m (20ft) side against the house as the gable can be lifted to accommodate opening doors and if it rains the water would flow off the side of the roof rather than towards the house. Can I remove the side walls during the event?
Yes of course, very easily. The end panels have zips in and can roll up or be taken off completely, the windows on the side can be removed individually with ease. I'd really like to have purple or lilac in my wedding marquee, is it possible?
Yes, but as discussed in our marquee colour schemes section be wary of having too many colour sources. All of our marquee exteriors are plain white, the interior lining can be white or ivory. If you want to have a coloured pelmet or coloured curtains we can make them but there will be an additional charge. Are all of your marquees and linings flame retardant?
Yes, we supply test certificates with every marquee Are DIY Marquees easy to join?
Yes. We provide gutter kits complete with instructions with any multiple marquee purchase. Are spare parts available for your marquees?
Yes, usually from stock. Can I collect marquees from your factory in Dorking?
Certainly. We realise delivery costs are expensive so welcome anyone picking their marquees up from our factory.
